Rooted Beginnings Lactation & Wellness
Trauma Informed support for the tender seasons of pregnancy, birth, postpartum & feeding.
Your body hasn't failed you. It has carried you through every transition so far, even the ones that broke your heart a little. At Rooted Beginnings, you're met with gentle, evidence based care, nervous system awareness, and a whole lot of compassion and understanding ♡
About Rooted Beginnings
Rooted Beginnings was born from lived experience. The cracked nipples, the tears at 3 a.m, the google spirals, the "is it supposed to be this hard?" moments, and the deep ache of wanting to do right by your baby while feeling completely overwhelmed.
I've walked those halls with my own babies. I know what it's like to feel dismissed, rushed, or shamed when you're already doing everything you can. That's why Rooted Beginnings exists: to offer a soft place to land in one of the most vulnerable seasons of your life.
Hi, Im Brittany, I am a mama and wife. I am often on the run getting kids to a rink or a dance studio. Being in the season of postpartum and struggling myself to feed all three of my babies I felt called to this field. No mom in postpartum should struggle, or feel judged. This year I became a lactation counsellor and trauma informed support person, and I am here to walk with you through the transitions of:
-
Pregnancy and preparing to feed your baby.
-
The raw postpartum weeks.
-
Navigating latch challenges, pain, or supply worries.
-
Pumping, combo-feeding, or bottle feeding.
-
The emotional load of feeding decisions.
My approach:
-
Trauma Informed - Your story, history, and nervous system matter.
-
Shame free - There is no "right" way to feed your baby. You are supported, not judged.
-
Holistic & real - We look at positioning, latch, body tension, nervous system regulation, and emotional techniques.

Prenatal sessions are incredibly helpful for:
• Preparing for breastfeeding with confidence

• Learning positioning & latch basics

Frequently asked questions
Q: When should I book a session?
A: Any time you’re wondering if you “should” get support, that’s usually your sign. You can book:
-
During pregnancy (to feel more prepared)
-
In the first week or two postpartum
-
Anytime feeding feels confusing, painful, stressful, or heavy
Q: Do you offer virtual sessions?
A: Yes. I offer secure online sessions so you can receive support from the comfort of your home, even if you’re in pajamas and haven’t brushed your hair. Virtual support can still be incredibly effective.
Q: Do you offer in-home visits?
A: In-home visits are available within my local area (Central Alberta). If you’re unsure if you’re within range, send me a message and we can chat about options.
Q: What does trauma-informed support actually mean?
A: It means I acknowledge that your body and nervous system carry history. I won’t push you, dismiss your feelings, or tell you to “just relax.” Instead, I’ll:
-
Ask for consent before making suggestions
-
Move at a pace that feels safe for you
-
Validate your experience, not minimize it
-
Make space for your emotions — not just the feeding plan
Q: Will you pressure me to breastfeed?
A: No. My role is to support you. I will give you evidence-based information, gentle guidance, and options that align with your values and mental health. How you choose to feed your baby is your decision, and I will support you in that.
Q: Do you work with partners too?
A: Yes. Partners are welcome and encouraged to be involved. They’re often a huge part of the support system, and giving them tools & understanding can make a big difference.
Q: Do you take insurance/benefits?
A: At this time, I do not direct-bill insurance. I can provide a detailed receipt, and some extended health plans may reimburse lactation or postpartum support services. Please check with your provider.
